It’s Moving Day! I can’t believe it’s actually here. I have to say, it still hasn’t sunk in that I’ll be in a different state by tomorrow. I feel like I’ll still be waking up to go to work. In just a few hours we will be on our way.

While I’ll be closer to my parents, I am leaving the rest of my family and friends behind. I’ll even miss my coworkers. The nice thing is that one of them is getting married in July, and my mom and I are planning to fly up and attend together. I’ll be able to visit everyone then. After that, who knows!

being grateful

I have so much to be grateful for this week. It’s been a long and short week all in one, with all the packing we did and the counting down. I still feel like it’s Tuesday!

I am grateful that we got to see our friends one last time. We also went to a fun trivia night at a bar not too far from us. Each table got a free pizza, there wasn’t even a cover charge! That’s hard to find, at least here. I thought that was really awesome.

R was going out to eat with his coworkers Thursday night, so I told my grandma I would stop by and have dinner with her and my parents. Turns out, they invited the rest of the family over, so I got to say good bye. My grandma made the infamous baked ziti I love, which was nice.

It’s sadly not often that I find myself being grateful forย coworkers, but they made it easy yesterday. One of them organized getting a cake and had everyone write on a card. I wasn’t expecting that at all! Truth be told, I felt a little worse for leaving them all. Not that I’m amazing or anything, but one person does make a difference in the office. I was really touched that they were able to be happy for me when it would have been easy to feel resentful.

I still can’t say how grateful I am for my parents. Even my grandma was over here today trying to help as much as possible. This would have taken a lot longer without them helping. I was at work and by the time I came home the truck had been loaded. On Wednesday my mom had packed at least half the apartment!

I am also grateful for R, because he did a lot during these two weeks. While I was busy researching apartments and making plans, he was packing and cleaning up the apartment. He’s also been busy trying to keep me calm! It’s nice to have a significant other that balances you out.

In any case, I hope I have a lot to be grateful for after the move. At this point my main concerns are having the cats make it down there okay, having the storage unit fit everything we have, and having no car issues on the way.

I will try my best to be back on Monday with an update for all of you! Blogging on my iPad isn’t ideal, but since my computer will be out of commission, it will have to do.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Leaving can be a sad event especially if there are special people in your life that you are leaving behind. But it will also be an opportunity to create new friends at the place where you are headed so that should grow the circle. :) Have a safe one!

That’s true. The people here seem friendlier so hopefully we won’t have any trouble making friends!

I do, I just wish they were closer together! My parents and I are hoping some family will change their minds and move down here as well.

Looking forward to your update on your move, but only when you have the time. Don’t stress yourself out because I know you’ll be busy looking at apartments too!

I am trying not to stress out too much! I wanted to blog yesterday but there wasn’t any time. Of course, the day we aren’t stuck in traffic goes by the fastest!

The time has finally come for your big move, all your plans are slowly coming out like you wanted – big big smile for you!

It’s hard to leave, I’m sure, but I hope you’ll find as many wonderful things about your new city. You’ll find new friends (here’s hoping) and perhaps nice new colleagues, at least of R’s.

I’m thankful for my BF calming me too. Yesterday at my family Easter lunch, I got a little annoyed at Dad, and the BF could see it coming, and asked what he could do to help. He knows just what to say to keep me from flipping out, and that is a real skill!

Thanks Sarah! So far everyone seems nice and helpful down here. I am looking forward to exploring everything. The area is pretty busy with a lot of shopping centers, and there’s a lake nearby.

That is a great skill to have! I can’t say R succeeds 100% of the time, but at least he tries.

Hope the move is going well! I can’t imagine moving away and having to say goodbye to so many people. Excited for both of you!

Thanks DC. It was hard, but at least I have my parents down here which makes it a lot easier. It would be a different story if we moved away from all our family.

Thanks Holly, so far the hotel isn’t too promising but I’m hoping we can find an apartment soon so we can get out of here!

Hope the move went well and that you’re enjoying the new place. It was sweet of your co-workers to get you a cake and for the family to all get together to wish you well. Leaving friends and family…and even co-workers can be tough, but going to a new place with new opportunities is also very exciting. Good luck. Can’t wait to hear what you have planned.

Thanks Andrew, it is rather bittersweet. I’m still trying to be more excited than nervous.

Leaving is very tough. I was emotional for the first hour of driving when I left my home state years ago to move to GA. Hope the move went well and that you are adjusting to your new place.

It was a very weird feeling, passing over the bridge and saying good-bye. It’s made a little easier knowing I’ll be back up there in two months, but it still feels like we’re just on vacation!

Free pizza on a trivia night? I’d reconsider this whole “moving away from free pizza” idea.

    Best of luck though! :)

Haha, I know, I was so upset we didn’t know about it sooner! We would have taken advantage of it. R had at least six slices as it was…

Best of luck on the move! And usually looking back am I able to appreciate the things my coworkers did for me. It’s great that they were able to give you a nice sendoff.

Thanks! I just felt so bad leaving my coworkers as one is getting married in July and is basically taking three weeks off, leaving the other alone. Hopefully they’ll have someone else hired and trained by then.

Thanks! Moving is pretty exhausting, especially when it’s several states away. If anything, it’s given me an incentive to get rid of stuff so we have less to move next time.
