Liebster Award Nominee: Get To Know Me!

First of all, I would like to thank Ron over at Running from Debt for nominating me for the Liebster Award. From what I gather, this award serves several purposes. It allows us newer bloggers to come together, discover each other’s blogs, and form a little community. I think it’s important to shine the light on new blogs, because everyone starts somewhere, and no one starts with a huge reader base. Hopefully this can help everyone out a bit, and we get to know each other in the process.

Rules for the Liebster Award

  • Only up-and-coming Blogs with less than 200 Twitter followers can be nominated for the Liebster Award.
  • The award must be passed down to other blogs in the same category as your blog.
  • When nominated, you must post 11 random facts about yourself
  • After writing 11 random facts, answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
  • Come up with 11 questions of your own for your nominees.
  • Nominate 5 other bloggers for the award, link to them, and let them know you nominated them by commenting on one of their posts.
  • Do not nominate the person who nominated you.

11 Random Facts About Me

I have an adorable orange cat named Ginny.

Ginny

My favorite season is fall.

My birthday is in July.

My favorite colors are purple and blue.

I’ve had surgery twice for heartburn (and hernia’s) which didn’t really help. I’ve had acid reflux for about a decade now, but it’s slowly going away and I took myself off my medication. Pills suck.

Speaking of, I find it really difficult to swallow most pills. There’s a 40% chance I’ll choke on it.

I’ve been skiing twice and would love to go back, except for the expense…

My favorite drink usually revolves around vodka. Sweet tea vodka is great!

My favorite book series is the Dresden Files and Codex Alera, both by the same author, Jim Butcher. If you like fantasy go check them out!!

I don’t really watch movies. The prospect of sitting there for two and a half hours viewing something that may or may not suck doesn’t thrill me. So if you feel inclined to reference movies around me, which a lot of people do, just know I’ll have no idea what you’re talking about.

I don’t like soda. I usually only drink water or iced tea. I also don’t like bacon!

Answers to the Questions Ron Asked

1. When did you start blogging? I started blogging in mid-May.

2. What would be your ultimate vacation? That’s a hard one as there’s a lot of places I would like to travel to. So I guess, if we’re going “ultimate,” it would be to travel to every destination I’d like to and I’d give it about three months. But that probably won’t happen.

3. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? It depends on how much I won. First, I would pay off my student loans. Then I would set aside a modest amount for a house payment, and some rental properties. I would give some to my parents and charities, and then invest the rest.

4. If you were in a circus, who would you be and why: The Ringmaster, Trapeze Artist, or Clown? I really don’t like circuses, or clowns, but I guess I would be the Ringmaster because I highly doubt I could fling myself around efficiently enough to qualify as a trapeze artist.

5. What is one project your are currently working on? My blog!

6. If you can only listen to one album, what would it be? I mostly listen to podcasts, or individual songs, not so much albums. So I don’t have much of a selection to choose from. Probably Sunset Beach DJ Session by ATB because it’s relaxing, and it’s definitely something you can listen to at the beach!
7. What is the farthest distance you have ever ran in one day? I am not a runner, so I have no idea how much of a distance I have actually been able to run. My boyfriend has done a marathon and I don’t know how people do those types of things! One of my goals for the summer is to definitely get in to walking and running around though.

8. What is your favorite type of cuisine? Italian!

9. If you can be anyone in history for one day, who would you be? I don’t really know…I’m not much of a history person (my friends are).

10. What is your fondest childhood memory? Is it sad I don’t really have one? I’m very boring. I don’t have any nice family vacation memories because we barely ever went on vacation, and I can’t remember much past age 14. I guess reading my summers away, because I enjoyed devouring book after book and imagining myself as a character. I don’t get many chances to read anymore sadly.

11. What would you accomplish if you knew you could not fail? I would become a federal agent for the FBI, CIA or NCIS or something like that. I would ideally like to be a detective in my lifetime, but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen anymore. But it would be comforting knowing I couldn’t fail, so I’d be able to catch all of those jerks out there. Hopefully also by not failing that means not dying :/.

  1. Thank you so much for nominating me. It is sincerely appreciated. It is fun to learn more about your fellow bloggers…here are my answers:
Why did you start blogging, what topic do you blog about, and why do you blog about it?
I love reading personal finance blogs and wanted to join the community. Also, I want people to know that you can live a “Rich” life even if you are not extravagantly wealthy.
What is your favorite place to vacation in? Went to Hawaii for our honeymoon…would love to go back.
Do you have any pets? No pets allowed in my apartment. I would like a dog though.
What is your favorite meal to eat? Care to share a recipe?
    Steak…medium rare
Do you enjoy doing household tasks like laundry, cleaning the dishes, and vacuuming? Can’t say I enjoy it but I don’t mind doing it. Share the chores 50/50 with my wife.
What is your favorite scent? (Can be perfume, flowers, food, etc.) whatever scent my wife is wearing =)
What do you hope to have accomplished in ten years? Be close to financially independent and hopefully have started a successful business or blog.
Are you happy with your job right now? Why or why not?
It is okay. The commute is long and sometimes the work is tedious, but I learn something new everyday so that is good.
If you could be in one profession/industry, what would it be? I think being an FBI agent would be cool like you mentioned.
How likely would you be to return a wallet with a load of cash in it if you found it randomly on the street with contact info contained inside? Would absolutely return it.
What are your plans to market your blog and get more readers? I need to add social media like Twitter and Facebook.

    1. You’re welcome! I think adding social media is a great plan – more ways to interact with the community is always good.

I also split the chores 50/50 – just seems fair. Thankfully we don’t have a large amount of area to vacuum.

I dislike the restrictions on pets in most places :( I would also love to get a dog someday, but our apartment is too small. I was very lucky to find animal-lover landlords so that I could have my cat with me!

Very jealous you’ve been to Hawaii, I hear too many good things about it, but it seems so expensive right now, haha.

  2. Awesome, I hope you win! It sounds like we have a lot in common. I quite snowboarding because of the expense. I am kind of an all-or-nothing guy so I only want to go if I can get a season pass, get my wife gear and a season pass as well (and maybe lessons for her? I would only do it if we can enjoy it together). Of course, I would need to be able to afford it. I don’t watch many movies either. I mainly watch tv shows since you can watch as much or as little as you want and set it down and pick it up as you want. Love italian food too! Definitely enjoyed this post.

    1. Thanks DC! Skiing was quite the adventure. I couldn’t stop properly and somehow went 40 mph (it seemed) down a hill and slowed down at the bottom, without falling. I have no clue how I managed to do that. I usually get a 3-day pass that includes rentals so it’s not *too* bad. I tried snowboarding but felt so weird having one foot out when coasting along or being on the lift.

TV shows are definitely better, though I sometimes tire from them if I’m trying to marathon a season to catch up. I just can’t focus too long on the TV, which is probably a good thing…

    1. Thanks! Yes, sweet tea vodka is great! There is a brand called Firefly that puts it out, but I have also tried Seagrams. You just add some lemonade and you’re all set – doesn’t even taste like alcohol. Which was dangerous when I kept drinking it, and accidentally locked my ex’s keys in his trunk…oops!

  3. I like reading these. Great answers.

Funny. I’m from the midwest, and all of my friends have downhill skied, but I’ve never been. I just never had the time/money/right circumstances to go. It’s probably the one fact about me that my friends from Detroit just can’t understand. “You’ve never downhill skied?” Nope.

    1. Thanks Joe!

I only went twice, both times were trips with friends and when college wasn’t in session. We went three days during the week which made it less expensive, split a house rental around 12 ways, and I think I paid around $100 for a three day pass that included rentals. The pass was restricted to beginner slopes, which suited me fine! It was a fun trip overall, though I was pretty sore afterward!

    1. Thanks! I love the sense of community it brings about since everyone has to tag people, it’s like a circle of networking and fun to do.

Haha, I know! I get teased about not liking bacon all the time. I could really take it or leave it on food, but I won’t eat it plain.

    1. Thanks! Yes, I am a Cancer. I can’t believe it’s coming up so quickly, June flew by!

You should check out the sweet tea vodka, it’s yummy! Skiing is lots of fun, but parts were definitely a little scary. I never learned how to stop properly which was a slight issue! I only really went two days a year on a little trip.

  4. Congrats, these awards are so fun, especially when it’s your first! I got one early on when I started blogging (start of this year) about lists – so really, about whatever pops into my head including money stuff (I read a lot of PF, but I can’t always write regularly enough), house DIY, inventories, goals and good fun! Actually, today was just 20 things about me :p

  5. Awesome answers!! So If you had it your way, you would be a jet-setting CIA Ringmaster who blogs on the side! Thank you for sharing and I enjoyed reading your posts. I look forward to continue reading them. This is the neat thing about the Liebster Award, it brings a new audience to your blog! Cheers!!

    1. Haha, I could settle for just jet-setting federal agent that blogs. They do get to travel a lot. Thank you for reading! I do agree that these little tags are a nice way to get to know everyone in the community. It puts a personality to the blogger that can be easier to relate to.
